One Small Act for the Philippines

Telling the story of the ever changing, evolving and inspiring Filipino is the foundation of the Solar News Channel. It’s the little, unknown but amazing stories of the people around us that fuel our passion to showcase the unwavering Filipino spirit. One Small Act is Solar News Channel’s venue to share these stories.

The campaign which was aptly launched during the Philippine Independence Day aims to awaken the spirit of nationalism of the Filipino. The most basic result of the campaign is for Filipinos to be encouraged to do small acts of kindness and realize that these acts of kindness will go a long way.

This year’s ONE SMALL ACT FOR THE PHILIPPINES photo contest is focused on showing your love for the environment. This year’s theme:

Protecting and Preserving the Environment.

Submit photos that show you protect and preserve the environment.

Who Can Join

The contest is open to all individuals. Participants must be a Filipino citizen and is presently residing in the Philippines.

How to Join (Mechanics)

  1. To participate in One Small Act for the Philippines: Protecting and Preserving the Environment photo contest, viewers must:
  2. A confirmation receipt will be sent to the participant’s email address as a validation of their participation to the competition.
  3. Photographs must be of original work of the sender, must not exceed 5MB and must be submitted in JPEG or PNG format.
  4. Editing of photographs will only be limited to minor burning, dodging and/or color correction and cropping. Stitched panoramas are NOT acceptable. Any changes to the original Photograph not itemized here are unacceptable and will be disqualified from the contest.
  5. Photograph must not have won any previous awards on a national level.
  6. Viewers may submit as many entries they can.
  7. The photo should best capture the theme of “One Small Act for the Philippines: Protecting and Preserving the Environment”.

Judging of Entries and Prizes

  1. The photo entry should capture this year’s theme which is One Small Act for the Philippines: Protecting and Preserving the Environment.
  2. Photos will be judged based on:
    • 50% photo relevance to the theme
    • 50% photo quality:
      • 25% sharpness of images, colors
      • 25% clarity of images
  3. Photograph entries will be judged by:
    • Paco Guerrero, world renowned, multi awarded photographer and host of travel photography show, WHAT I SEE;
    • Brilliante Mendoza, world renowned and multi awarded film director;
    • A representative from Solar Television Network Inc.
  4. Judging consist of two rounds: the weekly and final round. Judges will select three best photos every week. Each weekly winner receive two thousand (P2000.00) worth of gift certificates from Echostore. All the weekly winners will advance to the grand finals round where three lucky finalists will win iPad mini each.
  5. In the event of a tie, tied entries will be submitted for re judging. The entry with the highest score shall be declared winner.
  6. The decisions of the judges are final and irrevocable.

Redemption of Prizes

  1. Weekly winners must claim their prize at the Solar Television Network Inc., Worldwide Corporate Center, Shaw Blvd Mandaluyong City. Winners must present two (2) valid IDs upon claiming the prize.
  2. Winners must personally claim their prizes from the Solar News Channel Marketing team sixty (60) days from receipt of written notification.
  3. In the event that the winner is from a provincial area and could not go to Manila to personally claim his prize or in case the winner is not able to be physically present upon claiming the prize, he can authorize somebody on his behalf provided that the claimant will present the following:
    • Authorization letter signed by the winner
    • 2 valid IDs of the winner
    • 2 valid IDs of the claimant
  4. Unclaimed prizes beyond the specified date shall be forfeited and upon approval from DTI.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Contest will run from June 17 – August 21, 2013.
  2. Names of weekly winners shall be announced on Solar News Channel Facebook page, One Small Act for the Philippines website and a snail mail through the registered postal address.
  3. All photos submitted will be given proper attribution of the sender. By submitting the entry, the photo sender confirms that he/she has copyright over the photograph. Solar shall have ownership over all submitted entries, but copyright shall belong to the contestant. The copyright owner/contestant confirms that Solar shall have the right to reproduce, publish, distribute, display, or otherwise make use of the photo in print, online, on air, or by any other means for purposes of the One Small Act Campaign without limitation as to frequency and term
  4. Employees of Solar Television Network Inc. including their relatives up to second degree of consanguinity and affinity are disqualified from the contest.
